Ritalin Mnemonic...
Ritalin is a CNS stimulant and is usually indicated for Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and for narcolepsy. The mode of action is Ritalin increases the release of norepinephrine and dopamine in cerebral cortex to the reticular activating system. The response is meant to cause a decrease in hyperactivity (in ADD or ADHD) or the ability to stay awake (in narcolepsy). For Ritalin just remember A.D.D.

Lunesta is a Benzodiazepine-Like drug.
Lunesta is also known as Eszopiclone. It is approved for treating insomnia, with no limitation on how long it can be used. Eszopiclone is found to reduce sleep latency and nighttime awakening, increased total sleep time and sleep quality, and has no significant effect on sleep architecture. Lunesta is generally well tolerated. The most common adverse effect is a bitter aftertaste. Other common effects are headache, somnolence, dizziness, and dry mouth. Rebound insomnia may occur on the first night after discontinuing the drug. Like the benzodiazepines and the other benzodiazepine-like drugs, eszopiclone has been associated with cases of sleep driving and other sleep related complex behaviors. |
Abilify is also known as Aripiprazole.
Abilify is a second-generation (atypical) antipsychotic (SGA). Approved indications are schizophrenia, acute bipolar mania, major depressive disorder, and agitation associated with schizophrenia or bipolar mania. The SGAs can cause sedation and orthostatic hypotension, and can increase the risk of death when used to treat dementia in the elderly. Aripiprazole is well tolerated. The most common side eggects were headache, agitation, nervousness, anxiety, insomnia, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and somnolence. |
Zoloft is also known as Sertraline.
Zoloft is a Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). SSRIs are used to treat major depression and a variety of other psychologic disorders. This drug is also used to treat generalized anxiety disorder. Characteristic side effects are nausea, agitation/insomnia, and sexual dysfunction (especially anorgasmia). SSRIs can interact adversely with MAOIs and other serotonergic drugs, and so these combinations must be avoided. Like all other antidepressants, SSRIs may increase the risk of suicide. |
